John Martin
John born in Cushing, Oklahoma, is a former driver in the USAC and CART Championship series. He raced in the 1970-1977 and 1979-1980 seasons, with 52 career starts, including the 1972-1976 Indianapolis 500 races. He finished in the top ten 17 times, with his best finish in 5th position at Ontario Motor Speedway in both 1973 and 1975. His best points result was 11th in the 1975 USAC National Championship.
John is still very much still involved in motorsport, as he still races in historic events, and visits them frequently. Was, until the late 2000’s, an engineer in US single-seaters. Was also a driver coach and spotter for the Super Aguri Fernandez Racing IRL team. John’s best discipline was sports car road racing, and he converted his own car to become SCCA National Champion in 1964. Martin, who was based either in Wisconsin or Illinois, also raced in Trans Am and F5000.
John is one of most versatile men in motorsports. He has the creative strategy for team development with the objective to win championships with over 35 years experience in all racing activities including driving and team ownership. He had the unique ability to analyze and make recommendations for creative solutions for racing problems at lower cost. His driving talent and technical ability gained the respect and admiration of fellow drivers ad mechanics alike.
During his driving career he won many races and championships. Currently he participates in numerous SVRA events where he not only drives, but he also helps owners get their cars set up and the result is the cars run faster.
