Ricardo, a former Formula Renault driver and son of a driver, grew up with a deep passion and desire for racing. At the age of 14, Juncos made his first steps in the racing community driving karts in Argentina. Through his success in karts Juncos was able to join the Formula Renault class racing throughout South America. After funding became difficult as many drivers experience over their career, Juncos began working for many race teams in order to continue his own racing career. During this time Juncos was able to learn all aspects of the car in and out, along with schooling in mechanical and electrical engineering.
Established in 1997 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ricardo Juncos opened the doors of Juncos Racing as a full-service Formula Racing team supporting upcoming drivers in South America. For five years the team competed in various National Championships: Formula Renault 1600 Championship, Formula Renault 2000 Championship, and the National Sport Prototype Championship of Argentina.
After opportunities in Argentina became limited in the motorsports community, Juncos moved the team in September of 2003 to Miami, Florida as a full-service karting team. For the next few years, Juncos Racing proved to be successful in the United States capturing 19 Local, Regional, and National karting titles. During 2008 Juncos Racing dedicated most of its time to prepare its drivers and crew members for the next level of racing in the open wheel Formula Car Racing.
In 2009, Juncos Racing entered into the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear as strong contenders in their madden season with multiple wins and a runner-up finish in the driver’s championship along with finishing third in the team championship.
Juncos Racing finished its second year with great success in the 2010 Star Mazda Championship setting records, capturing the driver’s championship with Conor Daly, and finishing runner-up in the team championship. In 2011, the team continued to establish its name in the Mazda Road to Indy program and impress the racing community with more victories.
The team expanded into the next level of the Mazda Road to Indy program running two cars in the 2012 Firestone Indy Lights series along with four cars in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. Juncos Racing made headlines with their first visit to the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the Firestone Indy Lights Freedom 100 in May, recording the fastest lap of the race. The Star Mazda team finished a strong season with driver Connor De Phillippi’s 3rd place finish in the championship and driver Diego Ferreira’s Most Improved Driver of the Year award.
Juncos Racing continued their run in the Pro Mazda Championship (former Star Mazda Championship) finishing second in the 2013 team championship. The following year Juncos Racing captured their first Pro Mazda Team Championship along with winning the Pro Mazda Driver Championship with American Spencer Pigot.
The 2015 season proved to be a successful season for Juncos Racing. The team claimed their second straight Pro Mazda Championship, along with winning the Indy Lights Driver Championship in only their first full season in the Indy Lights series.
In 2017, Juncos Racing announced they would enter the Verizon IndyCar series and compete in the 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500. The rookie team would go on to finish a respected 15th with Sebastian Saavedra and 18th with Spencer Pigot. Juncos Racing continued their run in the Mazda Road to Indy presented by Cooper Tires ladder series, winning both the Indy Lights Driver Championship and Pro Mazda Driver Championship, as the first team in the history of the series to win both in the same season.
The 2018 season will see the 2017 Indy Lights champion moving up to the Verizon IndyCar Series for a currently limited start of the season. Juncos Racing will also be competing in the Pro Mazda and Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires with the 2017Pro Mazda champion Victor Franzoni.
