Verizon IndyCar Series team owner Ricardo Juncos was an interested attendee at IMSA’s State of The Series event Friday night at Road America.
The Argentinian will meet with IMSA president Scott Atherton today to learn more about the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with an eye to adding a new component to his open-wheel offerings.
“It’s my first-ever weekend where I’m not running a team and I can go see IMSA,” Juncos told RACER.
“I’m here to learn a lot, I have many meetings, and I have more than 80 questions for Scott Atherton. I’ve always had an interest to do this, going with the Mazda Road To Indy and IndyCar was the first path for me to do, and I want to see what we could do with Juncos Racing here.”
Juncos, who raced smaller prototypes before turning full-time to team ownership, is open to GT or Prototypes, but has a passion for the purebred cars that could steer his planning.
“We have a lot of things going on in my country, Argentina, and other Latin America counties with drivers who could come with us to IMSA,” he added. “My heart says Prototype, because that’s what I used to race, but we’ll see. We do IndyCar now, so P2, DPi is a similar level. We will see, but I think we could do a good job in Prototype.”
