Rossi Tops Honda Qualifiers at Circuit of the Americas

* Alexander Rossi qualifies second for Sunday’s INDYCAR Classic at the Circuit of the Americas

* Rookies Herta, Rosenqvist also advance to “Fast Six” final qualifying

* Honda drivers claim five of the top six starting positions

AUSTIN, Texas (March 23, 2019) – Alexander Rossi led the way for Honda Saturday in IndyCar Series qualifying action at the Circuit of the Americas, and will start Sunday’s 60-lap race from the outside of the front row, second. It is the second Firestone Fast Six qualifying effort in as many races this season for Rossi, as he also advanced to the final round of knockout qualifying two weeks ago at the season-opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Four other Honda drivers also advanced to the final qualifying round at COTA, led by Rossi’s Andretti Autosport teammate, Ryan Hunter-Reay, who will start third. Impressive rookie Colton Herta will start fourth in his Harding Steinbrenner Racing Honda, while Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Felix Rosenqvist and Scott Dixon will start fifth and sixth, respectively.

Honda drivers advancing through the opening round included Zach Veach, who will start ninth, Graham Rahal in 10th and another rookie, Santino Ferrucci, starting 11th for Dale Coyne Racing. Television coverage of Sunday’s 60-lap race, second round of the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series championship, starts at 1 p.m. EDT on the NBC Sports Network.

Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport Honda) second quickest in qualifying: “I’d like to say I’m satisfied with second, but I know we had the speed for the pole. [Will] Power put together what he needed, which is why he has almost 60 poles – he’s good at that. I missed it a bit into the final corner to open the lap. I knew it was in an uphill battle from there. A front row start is good. To be challenging for the pole this weekend is great and a testament to Andretti Autosport and everything the team has done.”
