NTT IndyCar Series will make a downtown pit stop to kick off Iowa Speedweek
NEWTON, Iowa (July 15, 2019) – Downtown Des Moines, get your cameras ready! INDYCAR transporters will make a pit stop in Des Moines at Cowles Commons en route to Iowa Speedway for the NTT IndyCar Series Iowa 300 on July 20. A key component of the ever-traveling road show, INDYCAR team transporters are the workhorses of the industry. They make the logistical nightmare of shipping cars from race-to-race possible.
Unlike standard professional sports, INDYCAR’s most critical parts can’t just jet to the next city for an upcoming race. Teams build race cars and parts specific to individual tracks to maximize performance. An NTT IndyCar Series transporter serves as a team’s “race shop on wheels,” crucial to the at-track activity of every team. These million-dollar big rigs not only transport race cars and equipment but convert into a mobile race shop with high-tech work areas and team headquarters, housing everything needed for a successful race weekend.
Two NTT IndyCar Series transporters will take over Cowles Commons, beginning at 10:00 a.m. CDT on Wednesday, July 17. For an INDYCAR driver to complete more than 4,100 race miles on the schedule this season, the transporter driver will log more than 10 times that many … almost 50,000 and then there is testing outside of race weekends.
The public is invited to see the beautiful rigs, free of charge. The transporters will then take 235 to Interstate 80 and finally to Iowa Speedway. The transporter display will serve as the official kickoff to Iowa Speedway’s first ever back-to-back race weekends – Iowa Speedweek – featuring the NTT IndyCar Series Iowa 300 on July 20 and culminating with the NASCAR Xfinity Series U.S. Cellular 250 on July 27.
