The SCCA National Championship Runoffs head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time in 2017. The event is unprecedented for both the Club and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, pitting the amateur National Championship event on an iteration of the same 14-corner, 2.592-mile road course that hosted the Formula One World Championship and the Verizon IndyCar Series’ Grand Prix of Indianapolis. The road course, of course, utilizes part of the famed oval that hosts the Indianapolis 500.
Hunter Brayton
Twenty-two years ago May, Scott Brayton made his qualifying run that landed him the pole position for the 1995 Indianapolis 500, averaging 231.604 mph over ten miles. He won the pole again in 1996, but tragically lost his life in a practice crash days later.
Twenty-two years after that ’95 triumph, his nephew, Hunter Brayton, is attempting to jumpstart his racing career and settle some of the unfinished business his family name has with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Well we got into the runoffs and I am looking forward to having my best week of the year and finishing strong. We have been getting the car better each week and I think we will have a competitive car.
Sept. 25 thru Oct 1 I will be competing at the track I have longed to race at since I started in 2008. It’s not the Oval where I intend to dominate someday but the road course where I also hope to dominate someday. If you will be in the area of Indianapolis that week I would …like to meet you and thank you for following my career. Simply message us and we will make sure your name is on our guest list so you can purchase a pit pass and come into our garage B-15 and take a picture with me and of you in the car. I want this week to be about you and what you mean to me. If a driver doesn’t have fans he has nothing. Please consider coming to Indianapolis and I will try to make sure you have the time of your life. Not sure yet how much a pit pass costs but will guarantee that you will be on a list to get in to see the car and me.
I hope to see you one of the days. My race is actually Sunday afternoon Oct. 1st but we qualify each day Monday thru Thursday.
