Kirk Dooley is currently serving as the Director of Event Operations for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and is a retired Marine Corps Officer with a 24 years of service, the majority of which was spent in Intelligence or Special Operations communities.
Enlisting immediately following high school, Dooley went on to serve in assignments that include diplomatic security duty at the American Embassies in London, England and Brasilia, Brazil. He was later selected to a special commissioning program in which he earned his degree at Purdue University. Following his appointment as an Intelligence Officer, Dooley served in various capacities and deployed to Southeast Asia and Iraq during contingency operations. As part of a Special Duty Recruiting assignment, Dooley was involved with Marine Corps recruitment-marketing efforts, and worked closely with J. Walter Thompson marketing agency on initiatives that included motorsports related campaigns.
Dooley subsequently was selected to join Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) where he held four leadership positions and deployed to Afghanistan as the Intelligence Center Director for Special Operations Task Force-82 (SOTF-82) and as Executive Officer for SOTF-81. He retired from his final assignment as Executive Officer for 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, MARSOC.
Following retirement, Dooley was able to combine career experience with an enthusiasm for motorsports where he joined INDYCAR in 2015 as Chief of Staff, and was later assigned to his current position of Director of Event Operations. Within this role, he is responsible for nearly 2000 event personnel on Race Day, and event operations for the speedway’s growing number of events
